hey im meself, one of a kind aint noone like me and noone likes me, ive been part of this scene for about three years(fuckin hell, that long!) and im still into the late 70s/80s music ive always liked, i dress the same i act the same i even look the same goddamnit (damn steroids stuntin my growth)not everyone has to conform and not anyone has to actively support the local band scene i have a full time job, like most people, i dont have the time or the resources to go to all the gigs.
the scene is the people.

i find the idea of a scene very comforting, i.e
everyone sticking together
support for each other
helpin each other progress
this doesnt happen.you say the scene is the people.the scene consists of the"old school",
who, although decent enough tend to atract some kind of hero worship from the younger kids.
false heros make me sick. the idea that because someone is a band, they are worth knowing or it is acceptable to drop their name into conversations so your mate can go "wow, you know..........?"
it like when people get autographs of bands they like as if the people in the band are somehow so much better than them.
bullshit. respect a prson for what theyve don, any difference theyve made, any real success theyve acheived, but idolising someone for being in local band is destructive.
building people up like that reflects on their own personality too.
take tom ritchie, granted hes a cunt, but as soon as untold started having any success, what happened,
"that tom ritchie, hes a cunt, he loves himself"
i hate the idea that respect can just be given out based on who you are and not what you are.
this so called scene is a very dectructive thing

There seems to be a scene. Although like "i hate yeter pang" says, a scene should be more like bands supporting other bands and people and people supporting bands. At gigs people in the scene seem to sit back and watch the bands and not show any appreciation (ie clapping and cheering after songs), whereas people who are generally just guests and not technically part of the scene (such as kids, and "trendies" who have decided to go to a few gigs) seem to show great support, and are not afraid to cheer their hearts out.
This is how it appears.
Now, it's likely just a matter of time before Afro Joe decides to argue with all of us, like the big shot guru figure he thinks he is. And then a bunch of you people will agree with him. Why? Because he has a convincing way with words perhaps. He'll probably start talking about how the trendies are stuff are just as part of the "scene" as anyone because they go to gigs. Well, before you start your argumentative attitude-ridden replies, I'd like to clarify that my generalizations are used so the other readers know just what I'm talking about. College grebs IN GENERAL seem to show less respect than "GUESTS". Understand?

grebs are just trendies following a diferent trend, if you dont like the scene then change it for the better.

fukin geeks (not barker or lauren, just the peole talking poo out there arses) talking out there arses, this topic was not needed to be turned nasty, there is a scene and u can see it by the different groups of people, even though some arent close friends through out the groups and some are, the majority or the people know each other, and we all seem to turn up to the same nites out and enjoy a good time 2GETHER, i met the majority of my friends just by coming out and getting to know people, am i rite in saying that i met these peolple through those in the "scene"??
or maybe not i dont know

A family unit argues.Brothers bicker all the time. The mere fact that there is so much bickering shows that the 'scene' is more like a family unit.
I laughed out loud at that comment about big Joe,in the next breath as 'as soon as Tom ritchie got successful, people started to resent him'
There is a Smiths song 'we hate it when our friends are successful' that is an example of what is going on here.People do look up to Joe,because he is a charismatic guy, that is no reason to resent him at all.As for elitism, there is a shade of that with everyone.Every group of people believes themselves to be slighty superior to another, anyone who denies that is a fool or a liar.
Again people are so obsessed with picking fault, they don't take the time to appreciate what goes on around them.
Oh yeah local gig promoters...do I not count?I have 5 gigs lined up this year already.

Yeah my bad,The comment about tom ritchie was in another post. But a scene doesn't necessarily mean everyone has to like or get on with each other. It is a measure of what goes on around us.And there is alot.
The other thing being discussed is Unity. That was overdone last year and I won't delve into that again.

This town has actually got it pretty good....and the scene isn't just about local bands...it's about being there for each other. One major example of this, which the person involved received much abuse for, was when barker bottled that guy. He was sticking up for people who couldn't defend themselves and you shunned him for it. There is some very goos local talent and many more DIY gigs are put on in this town than alot of others....why do greebo's always feel they need to convince themselves they have it so bad?
